About Me

A nurse shaped by two countries

I am a Registered Nurse with four years of intensive care experience in the Accident Service at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Colombo. My clinical practice has involved the care of critically ill and acutely deteriorating patients, with particular emphasis on rapid assessment, clinical judgement, patient monitoring, timely intervention and multidisciplinary collaboration.

My story

From Colombo to Frankston

I began my nursing career in Sri Lanka, where I trained and registered as a nurse before moving into intensive care. Working in ICU and trauma settings taught me to stay calm under pressure, recognise subtle changes in a patient's condition, and support families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

Moving to Australia was an important step in my professional journey. I wanted not only to continue my nursing career, but also to grow within a healthcare system that places strong emphasis on evidence-based and person-centred care. To support this transition, I enrolled in a Master of Nursing and began building my AHPRA registration portfolio.

I currently work as a Nursing Assistant at Regis Frankston, providing direct care to aged care residents. This experience has strengthened my communication skills and deepened my understanding of dignity, ageing, chronic illness, and person-centred care.

My experience across Sri Lanka, intensive care, trauma, and aged care has shaped the way I approach nursing. I believe each setting has added something valuable to my practice, and I bring those experiences with me as I continue to grow within the Australian healthcare system.

Professional values

What guides my practice

Compassionate presence

Nursing is as much about being present with a person as it is about clinical skill. I aim to bring warmth and attentiveness to every interaction.

Evidence-based practice

My Master of Nursing has reinforced my commitment to grounding clinical decisions in current research and best-practice guidelines.

Cultural humility

Having worked across two healthcare systems and cultures, I understand the importance of meeting patients where they are and respecting their backgrounds.

Continuous growth

I am committed to lifelong learning — through formal study, reflective practice, and seeking feedback from colleagues and supervisors.

Registration pathway

Progressing toward AHPRA registration

My pathway to AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse in Australia involves three interconnected streams of work.

1

Academic preparation

Completing a Master of Nursing at an Australian university to meet AHPRA's academic requirements for overseas-trained nurses.

2

Supervised practice

Gaining supervised clinical hours in an Australian healthcare setting, currently through my role at Regis Frankston.

3

Portfolio documentation

Building a professional portfolio that demonstrates my competencies, reflective practice, and readiness for registration — which this e-portfolio supports.

This portfolio is a living document of that journey — a record of where I have come from, what I have learned, and where I am headed.
